Stretchy knit wraps work best for newborns and smaller babies. They are great wraps to learn with because they can be pre-tied. (Meaning you can tie wrap on and THEN put baby in.) They are made of "t-shirt" material so they are very comfortable and can be left on even when not wearing baby. When my son was smaller I would tie it on in the morning or before leaving the house and put him in and out of it all day. I would not actually untie the wrap until I was finished with it at the end of the day. This "pop-in-and-out" ease also makes running errands easier when getting in and out of the car a lot.
